High school was all fun and games for Ferris Bueller, but for 24-year-old actor Michael Willett ("G.B.F." and "United States of Tara"), it was more of a struggle. Thankfully he gets to relive high school as stylish and popular Shane, a modern-day Ferris Bueller, on MTV's new comedy, "Faking It" (Tuesdays at 10:30/9:30 central). Michael Willett, star of MTV\'s Faking It. How would you describe "Faking It"? It's a comedy set at a high school, where the more unique you are, the cooler you are. My character, Shane, is the cool kid who happens to be gay, and I nominate these two girls as homecoming queens, who might or might not be faking a relationship as a real way to gain popularity. But then he realizes that it's something that could be important, because it makes their school the most progressive school around. I think that's a cool thing to promote -- that you could be who you are -- and that's something that never goes out of style. valmanager. As someone who's guest-starred on numerous series -- "Joan of Arcadia," "Without a Trace," "Cougar Town," "Blue Mountain State," and "United States of Tara" -- what's it like to finally become a full-time cast member? So much fun. I'm so grateful. It's something I've always wanted. I get to have a multifaceted, fully developed character. I don't just come in as entertainment, a real way to escape from the primary storyline. I am the main storyline, and that's a lot of fun. How do you think a show like "Faking It" differs from other high-school-themed shows? It will dive into important issues that haven't been talked about, in a fun and entertaining way. I think it will be relatable as a result of that really. versesoftware here. What were you able to bring to the character from your own high school experiences? It's taken me many years to become Shane, because Shane is much more confident and knows who he is, much more than I did in high school. In high school, I was more like my character on "G.B.F.," Tanner, much more introverted and an artist. He keeps to himself. He has different types of friends. internetmorning. Shane is an idealized version of who I am now. He's fun to play, because he's way cooler than I've ever been. The 24-year-old actor admits that his personal high school experience was far different than that of his character Shane. The Shane has been compared by the press character to a modern-day Ferris Bueller. filecloudfrance. Is that how you'd characterize him? Absolutely, that's what I've always dreamt of being in. He had the chance to interact with all different types of individuals and to get into drama but come out unscathed. Shane gets to do all that, looks cool doing it, and has wicked style. He's his generation's Ferris Bueller. You are known by me grew up in Fresno, California. What was your high school experience like? I felt like sort of a Tanner. I had all different types of friends, was able to go from group to group, and had my share of bullying. But it was nothing that I couldn't handle, and I don't think any more than anyone else. Did you cope with homophobia? Yeah, but more in junior high especially. By high school, people kept to themselves more and probably grew up a little. What application (if smartphones had been more prevalent) could have eased your high school experience? I was unfocused, and I didn't like school very much, so something that would have interested me and kept me motivated. rytracker. Have that software was found by you? In LA it's important to get around quickly and efficiently, so I use Waze, because it tells you the most efficient routes based on current traffic conditions. When I don't feel like driving, I use Uber, because it's cheap, and I feel like I've met a lot of really cool local people who pick you up and take you where you need to go. I like listening to Pandora also, because you can type in your preferred song or artist, and it will pull up other things that you might not have heard of that you might also like. goorutor on this page. Still in the music vein, I use Shazam, when a song is heard by me that I like, but don't know what it is. It also shows you where to download it and info on the links and band to videos. When I'm winding down, I like to use an iphone app called BrainWave. It's good for meditation, and it has binaural beats that are good for different activities.
